Asthma/Anaphylaxis

Asthma and anaphylaxis can be fatal.

This 3 hour courses provides essential skills and knowledge on the management of these conditions, for anyone who works with the general public , but particularly for those who care for or teach someone who suffers from asthma or is at risk of anaphylaxis.

This course also covers recent EU Legislation (December 2014) regarding food labelling.

The asthma module considers factors that impact upon asthma control, the use of Personal Asthma Action Plans (PAAP) and the importance of good inhaler technique.

The anaphylaxis module includes training in the use and practise of all UK licensed auto-injectors, which is based on The Anaphylaxis Campaign’s AllergyWise programme accredited by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN)

Additional Information

Children and adults are dying needlessly from asthma attacks, according to a report by the Royal College of Physicians (May 2014), which found that in a quarter of fatal cases patients had received less than satisfactory care.

The disease – kills about 1,200 people a year.

According to the Report :

Parents and children, and those who care for or teach them, should be educated about managing asthma. This should include emphasis on ‘how’, ‘why’ and ‘when’ they should use their asthma medications, recognising when asthma is not controlled and knowing when and how to seek emergency advice.

All people with asthma should be provided with written guidance in the form of a personal asthma action plan (PAAP) that details their own triggers and current treatment, and specifies how to prevent relapse and when and how to seek help in an emergency.
